Climber Contribution

Why Contribute?

Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro is an adventure that is made memorable and achievable thanks to the hard work and dedication of our porters. These local heroes carry equipment, prepare meals, and ensure the safety and comfort of climbers, all while navigating one of the world’s most challenging terrains. Despite their crucial role, porters often face inadequate compensation, poor working conditions, and lack of recognition for their efforts.

Your contribution as a climber helps us directly support these indispensable members of your climbing team. By contributing to the Kilimanjaro Responsible Trekking Organization, you are taking a stand for ethical climbing practices and contributing to the sustainable development of local communities.

Climber Contribution Fee

We ask climbers to consider a minimum contribution of $3 per climb as a Climber Contribution Fee. This fee directly supports the following initiatives:

  • Fair Wages: Ensuring porters are paid fair wages in accordance with KRTO guidelines.
  • Proper Gear: Providing porters with the necessary gear and clothing to safely and comfortably undertake their work.
  • Education and Training: Offering training programs for porters on safety, first aid, and environmental conservation practices.
  • Advocacy and Awareness: Raising awareness among climbers and tour operators about the importance of ethical climbing practices.

Thank you for your support and commitment to responsible tourism and ethical climbing practices.
